Aryabhatta College was originally established as Ram Lal Anand College in 1973.
It introduced three-year diploma courses in Applied Arts, Applied Sciences, and Computer Applications. Named after the renowned Indian mathematician, astronomer, and astrologer Aryabhatta, the institution officially became known as Aryabhatta Government College in 1981.
In 1991, the college affiliated itself with Delhi University, joining other government colleges in South Delhi. Over the years, it has transformed into one of Delhi University’s most successful undergraduate colleges, offering diverse streams of study.

Library
The Aryabhatta College Library was established in 1973 to cater to the academic and information needs of the users of Ram Lal Anand College (Evening), which was later renamed as Aryabhatta College in 2015. Situated in a two-story complex adjacent to the Taarangana Block of the College, the library serves as a user-focused centre for learning resources, supporting academic and research requirements.
The library is well-equipped and automated, utilising the Integrated Library Management System ‘SOUL’ (Software for University Library), developed by INFLIBNET. The automation process began in 2004 with the acquisition and installation of SOUL software, and by 2006, all books and library services were successfully incorporated into the database.
At present, the library operates on SOUL 3.0 Version, featuring an efficient OPAC (Open Access Public Catalog) module that enables users to check the availability status of books. With an extensive collection of over 59,000 books covering various subjects such as Commerce, Hindi, English, Psychology, Management Sciences, Political Science, History, and Computer Science, the library provides a valuable resource for the academic community.
Furthermore, the library offers access to a diverse range of reading materials, including 20 national and international periodicals/magazines and 9 print newspapers in both Hindi and English languages. Additionally, users can access a database of 98,000 e-books and approximately 10,000 e-journals through the NLIST subscription. Besides, e-resources available through DULS (Delhi University Library System) are accessible through the College Network and Remote Login facility.
The library’s operating hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on all working days, with the exception of Sundays, Saturdays, and other gazetted holidays. Regarding membership, all students benefiting from the college are granted membership for one academic year. Students promoted to the second or third year need to obtain fresh membership for the new academic session.
Medical
The health care centre at Aryabhatta College is a well-maintained, airy, and properly ventilated facility equipped with basic medical amenities. Its primary focus is on providing immediate first-aid relief to students in pain or distress during college hours.
To ensure the well-being of students, a qualified nurse is present full-time at the centre. For situations that require more extensive care, the college has a nearby Health Center with additional beds.

NCC
Aryabhatta College, formerly known as Ram Lal Anand College (Evening), achieved a significant milestone by establishing a separate NCC wing with the necessary sanction and permission to operate a platoon. From 2014 to 2022, NCC activities at Aryabhatta College were conducted through Ramlal Anand College NCC wing for male cadets and NCC Motilal College wing for female cadets.
The cadets from Aryabhatta College actively participated in various events such as the Annual Day, Republic Day, and Independence Day parades held at the college, showcasing their dedication and commitment. Due to the relentless efforts and a large number of applications from cadets, their perseverance finally paid off in 2022.

NSS
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a government-led initiative under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, launched in 1969 during Mahatma Gandhi’s Centenary year. It aims to instil the value of “Service Before Self” among students in educational institutions through voluntary community service activities.
NSS Aryabhatta, an esteemed institution, is dedicated to nurturing responsible, sensitive, and welfare-oriented youth for the nation. The college embodies the NSS motto “NOT ME BUT YOU.”
To join NSS Aryabhatta, students undergo interviews, and their participation in various activities is diligently recorded throughout the two-year membership. In the first year, students must complete 120 hours of community service, and to be promoted to the second year, they are expected to fulfil a total of 240 hours. Upon achieving this milestone, students become eligible for a university certificate.
One of NSS Aryabhatta’s pioneering programs is the AKSHAR literacy initiative, where students dedicate their time to providing basic literacy to the children of migrant labourers and daily wage workers residing on campus. Started in 2021, AKSHAR is still in its initial stages, but the college has ambitious plans to expand it to benefit children from all over Delhi.
NSS Aryabhatta actively conducts awareness drives, adopts a nearby slum, organises health camps, and donation drives for the underprivileged, providing them with winter clothes, shoes, and books. Scholarships Available at Aryabhatta College
All India Entrance Scholarships
The University conducts a competitive examination in Delhi every October to grant All India Entrance Scholarships. There are 50 scholarships available, each valued at Rs. 250/- per month, and they are tenable for three years. These scholarships are awarded to students pursuing an honours degree course at Delhi University.
To be eligible for the competition, students must have passed the Senior School Certificate Examination from the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi.
The application form for the scholarship competition can be obtained from Branch vii (1), Room No. 61, Main University Campus on any working day between 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. after 1st August each year. Interested candidates need to submit the completed application form along with an examination fee of Rs. 50/-.
Scholarships to SC/ST Students
Scholarships are available for students who belong to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, backward classes, and children of political sufferers. To apply, eligible students can obtain the prescribed application forms from the Directorate of Education, Delhi. The process for the disbursement of scholarships will be communicated through a notice displayed on the College Notice Board.
Fee Concession and Scholarship Committee
The College has a Fee Concession and Scholarship Committee with the primary objective of offering financial assistance to students in need. In addition to providing fee concessions to eligible students who apply for it, the Committee has introduced new scholarships starting from the academic year 2015-16. These scholarships are designed to support deserving students further in their educational pursuits.
