Distinguished journalists with extensive experience from 1995 to the present actively engaged in the Alumni Meet Sanchar 2024 held at the South Campus of Delhi University. The current students contributed significantly to making Sanchar 2024 a memorable event through their captivating cultural program. Once again, South Campus served as a nostalgic backdrop, allowing attendees to relive cherished memories and creating a palpable sense of camaraderie among those present at the event.
The inaugural Alumni Meet Sanchar 2024 at Delhi University’s South Campus marked a significant post-COVID milestone. The event brought great news for journalism students enrolled in the Hindi department at South Campus. An exciting announcement was made by Anil Rai, the head of the Department of Journalism overseeing the ‘PG Diploma in Hindi Journalism’ program. During the Alumni Meet Sanchar 2024, Rai revealed that the university has allocated funds for the construction of a new studio for the journalism department.
This development is poised to bring substantial benefits to students, facilitating their learning across the entire news production process, from content creation to delivery. Rai shared that the university has earmarked a budget of Rs 70 lakh for the establishment of a new studio. This initiative aims to provide students with a comprehensive learning experience, covering the entire news production process, from writing to dissemination to the audience.
Students spanning from 1995 to the present took part in Alumni Meet Sanchar 2024. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by esteemed senior journalist Arvind Mohan, accompanied by current professor Seema Bharti, senior journalist Prabhakar Mishra, and Professor Sudha. Mohan, reflecting on his nearly 45-year association with South Campus since its inception, expressed his deep connection and affection for the students. He shared invaluable experiences from the media world with both new and old students engaged in journalism.
The program saw the active participation of prominent and seasoned journalists, who reminisced about the bygone days. An open forum provided a platform for students to engage with their seniors, discussing the prospects and challenges in the field of journalism. Some seniors shared insights into the hurdles encountered at the onset of their media careers, while others enlightened the students about the ongoing challenges they face in the media industry.
In the course, esteemed journalists Prabhakar Mishra and Akhilesh Chandra, who also served as instructors, shared their valuable experiences. Mishra emphasised the abundant opportunities in the media industry but stressed the importance of staying prepared for challenges. The program received sponsorship from the Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
Students had the opportunity to meet Senior Journalists
During the Alumni Meet Sanchar 2024, students were given the unique chance to partake in an open forum alongside their senior peers. The occasion witnessed the active involvement of alumni hailing from diverse media houses, such as India TV, Aaj Tak, Zee News, TV9 Bharatvarsh, News 24 and Nav Bharat Times. This initiative served as a platform for these media professionals to reminisce about the past, sharing their nostalgic memories while also delving into discussions about the future landscape of journalism.
By taking part in the programme, the students gained an invaluable chance to interact with their senior peers in person at an open forum session. Senior professionals freely provided insights from their life experiences and the difficulties they faced throughout their careers in the media sector in an interactive setting. These experiences gave the event a more intimate feel while also giving current students a firsthand look at the reality and complexities of a media career.
