Project Rivaayat
The existence of 20,000 years old art, Terracotta Pottery, is slowly fading away. As we started our project, we realized the community suffered multiple challenges: outdated designs and lack of market access being the biggest of them. In order to revive this dying art form and to improve the plight of these potters, we came up with our model, Rivaayat. Rivaayat is an initiative to revive the art of Terracotta pottery by creating direct market linkages for the potters, thereby eliminating the middlemen while connecting them with professional designers in order to modernize their existing designs.
Uttam Nagar-Largest Potters Colony
The journey began in the lanes of Kumhar colony in Uttam Nagar, the largest potters hub, providing shelter to over 600+ families. During our surveys, we understood the problems of middlemen exploitation, outdated designs and lack of technical knowledge that the artisans were facing. In the new technologically advanced marketing world, most of the artisans were struggling with a lack of demand and recognition. This made us come up with Rivaayat, an initiative by CDF SRCC to revive such art forms that need our help and make the artisans sustainable.
