History of Sri Aurobindo College
Established in 1972, Sri Aurobindo College, Delhi University, stands as an autonomous institution within the University of Delhi. Originally known as Hauz Khas College, it was later renamed Sri Aurobindo College under the guidance of Late Smt. Shashi Prabha Arya. Offering a diverse array of undergraduate and postgraduate courses spanning science, commerce, arts & humanities, and business management, the college also extends diploma and PG diploma programs alongside additional courses.

The Department of Physical Education at Sri Aurobindo College distinguishes itself as one of the most effective departments within the institution. Rana, Convener of the Sports Committee, and Dr. Tarun Routhan, Director/Assistant Professor of Physical Education. Some notable achievements include Mr. Vasu Khokhar, a second-year B.A. Programme student, who clinched the Gold Medal in the under 77 Kg weight category at the 2nd South Asian Grappling Championship 2017 held in Kathmandu, Nepal. Similarly, Mr. Ankit Kumar, a first-year B.A. Programme student, represented Delhi Hockey in the 8th Hockey India Senior National Championship 2018 in Imphal, Manipur.
Mr. Aditya Raj Gautam, a second-year B.A. Programme student, showcased exceptional talent by securing top positions in various events such as Shot Put, Discus Throw, Javelin Throw, and 200M in different championships. Mr. Dev Nidhi, a first-year B.A. Programme student, also demonstrated remarkable skills by winning medals in Table Tennis events across different tournaments.
Additionally, the college’s cricket team emerged victorious in the Cricket Championship at APARAJI 2018, held at Symbiosis Law School. The football team achieved second place in the Dr. Bharat Ram Sports Meet 2017-18 held at Lady Sri Ram College, showcasing their competitive spirit.

NCC

NSS
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a voluntary public service program sponsored by the Indian government’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Its goal is to foster the holistic development of students through community engagement. At Sri Aurobindo College, the NSS unit has been actively involved in various initiatives during the academic year 2017-18.
To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Quit India Movement and the 70th Independence Day, the college, including the Principal, faculty, staff, and students, along with NSS volunteers, pledged on August 9, 2017, to contribute to building a New India free from poverty, corruption, terrorism, communalism, and casteism. This was followed by a week-long ‘Cleanliness Drive’ within the college premises as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, including tree planting activities, overseen by Dr. Rajiv Aggarwal, the NSS Convenor, and Co-convenors Kalpita Sonowal and Dr. Neetu Dwivedi.
An essay writing competition titled ‘Sankalp se Siddhi’ was organized on September 5, 2017, in alignment with the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation’s objectives under the Swachh Bharat Mission. Participants shared their perspectives on ‘What will I do for Cleanliness?’ The top five entries were submitted to the ministry’s website.
The NSS team actively participated in the ‘Rally for Rivers’ event led by Sadhguru, spreading awareness through rallies, street plays, and interpersonal communication. The event, which concluded on September 22, 2017, garnered significant support, with over 1500 missed calls registered from the college alone.
On October 30, 2017, in observance of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day), the NSS unit organized an oath-taking ceremony to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Volunteers pledged to promote unity and contribute to the nation’s development, following an address by Principal Dr. Vipin Agarwal and a street play on ‘Unity.’
The NSS unit conducted a ‘Books and Clothes Collection and Distribution Drive,’ collecting donations from students, faculty, and staff. On October 30, 2017, the collected items were distributed among underprivileged individuals in the Begampur Slum area of New Delhi, aiming to provide support during the upcoming winter months.
National Voters Day was celebrated on January 25, 2018, under the NSS unit’s auspices, with participants pledging to uphold the democratic values of the country and engage in ethical electoral participation.
