History of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce
Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce was established in 1926 under the aegis of the Dayanand Anglo Vedic Education Society. Situated in New Delhi, India, it functions as a constituent college of the University of Delhi. The institution derives its name from the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh.
In a tribute to its guiding spirit, Dr. Ayurveda Prasad Jain, the eldest son of Maharaja Charan Singh Ji, an esteemed industrialist and renowned philanthropist, the college initiated the funding of a Chair and a Professorship in his honour. The unveiling ceremony for this initiative took place on April 16, 2014, at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce. The event was graced by notable figures such as His Excellency Lt-Governor Tejendra Khanna, Honourable Chief Minister Shrimati Sheela Dixit, and the esteemed Sikh religious preacher Baba Ranjit Singh Ji Dhadrian Wale.

What Facilities are Available at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce?
Sports
The college offers a wide range of sports facilities, including both indoor and outdoor games. It boasts a splendid cricket ground where matches are held during the day and even day and night matches take place. Each year, the college hosts the Sahibzada Ajit Singh Cricket Tournament in December and January, drawing about twenty clubs to participate.
In 2002, the college constructed a basketball court and a volleyball court, both meeting national standards. Additionally, to foster an interest in tennis among students, two clay courts for Lawn Tennis were built. Other sports available to students include volleyball, table tennis, and chess. The students actively engage with these facilities, bringing recognition to the college. Recently, a shooting range was also established to train students in the sport.
Thanks to the guidance of the Director of Physical Education, several state and national-level cricketers and players have emerged from the training facilities provided by the college.
Girls Hostel
Mata Sahib Kaur was honoured as the Mother of the Khalsa, and since then, those initiated into the faith are considered the sons and daughters of Guru Gobind Singh and Mata Sahib Kaur. Responding to the needs of numerous female students from outside Delhi, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce has decided to establish hostel facilities named after Mata Sahib Kaur Ji within the college campus.
With 42 rooms available, the hostel can accommodate up to 126 undergraduate female students. Alongside various amenities, the hostel management ensures a comfortable and enjoyable stay for all resident students.
Auditorium
The college boasts a 500-seat, fully air-conditioned auditorium known as the Sahibzada Ajit Singh Auditorium, which serves as the hub for cultural activities. It features a spacious stage, two green rooms, comfortable seating, carpeting, air-conditioning, washrooms, and a podium. The advanced sound and lighting systems enhance the atmosphere of the auditorium, making it the preferred venue for all major intra and inter-college events.
Computer Laboratory

The college boasts four computer laboratories equipped with approximately one hundred and forty PCs and nearly thirty printers and scanners, all supported by UPS for uninterrupted power supply. Students have access to various Windows-based office suites, including spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation software, as well as language processors and client-server database software packages.
The software profile comprises licensed versions of the latest packages such as Visual Studio (Visual Basic, Visual C++, Visual FoxPro), JBuilder, Oracle, Tally, and dBase, along with language compilers like Turbo C, Turbo C++, Java, and QBasic.
Bank
A branch of Punjab and Sind Bank operates within the campus premises, offering convenient banking services including an ATM facility. This setup ensures quick and easy access for both students and staff, enhancing their overall convenience.
Library
The College Library was established in 1984, coinciding with the founding of the college. Its primary goal is to offer a comprehensive range of computerised services aimed at providing timely and accurate information across various subjects. Housed in a centrally air-conditioned space, the library is well-equipped and well-stocked. It employs the NETTLIB software system to streamline its operations effectively.
Currently, the library boasts a collection of over 50,000 books, 490 bound volumes of significant journals, and approximately 850 CDs covering a wide array of topics. Subscriptions to 27 newspapers and 35 Indian and foreign journals and magazines are regularly maintained. Notably, the library’s collection is particularly rich in fields such as Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Management, Sports, General Studies, and Sikhism.
Visitors to the library enjoy open access to materials, ample seating in a spacious reading room, and access to a dedicated reference section.
Seminar Room & Conference Hall
The college provides access to two seminar rooms and one conference hall, which have hosted numerous seminars, workshops, symposia, guest lectures, and other events over the years. These centrally air-conditioned halls are equipped with modern facilities such as projectors, advanced sound systems, and WiFi, making them ideal venues for academic, religious, social, and general discussions. They can accommodate more than two hundred people comfortably.
Gurudwara Sahib
To foster a sense of divinity and spirituality among students and staff, the college has established a Gurudwara within its premises. Managed by the Divinity Society of the college, the Gurudwara sees the daily recitation of the Hukamnama, with the message handwritten on a board placed alongside the Gurudwara Sahib each day.
Photocopying
The photocopy store within the college offers photocopying and binding services at affordable rates. It also stocks essential stationery items and reference books for students’ convenience.
Cafeteria / Student’s Union Room

Placements at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce
The university hasn’t disclosed any placement data for the year 2023 yet. However, the NIRF 2023 report has been released. According to the annual report of 2022, more than 22 companies visited the campus, and over 250 students from the BSc (Hons.) Computer Science branches were placed. Additionally, 347 offers were extended, and over 60 companies participated in the placement process for the BA (Hons.) Economics branch in 2022.
Furthermore, a virtual internship was organised, attracting registrations from 1,086 top companies such as Hindustan Times, WTW, and Ken Research. According to the NIRF report of 2023, the median package offered to MCom students during the 2022 placements was INR 5.20 LPA.
There was an 11% increase observed in the median package offered to MBA/PGDM students during the 2022 placements compared to 2021. Similarly, a 4% increase was noted in the median package offered to MCom students during the 2022 placements compared to the previous year.

In 2022, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council bestowed upon it a CGPA of 3.54 and an A++ grade. It achieved the 47th position among colleges nationwide according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework in 2023. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in commerce disciplines, with its B.A. (Honours) Business Economics program being a flagship offering.
Presently, the college accommodates approximately 2200 students and boasts a faculty of 70 teachers. Dr. J. B. Singh serves as the Principal, and the majority of the staff are alumni of Delhi University.
